Richard Carapaz secures spectacular gold in men's cycling road race.

 

INEOS Grenadiers athlete won thanks to an impressive breakaway six kilometres left of the 234km-long race to win in 6:05.26.

Carapaz, a renowned mountain specialist, prepared himself for this race, described as one of the hardest in Olympic history with almost 5,000m of climbing, by training on the Cotopaxi Volcano in the Andes.
