On a hot day in southern Spain, Alessandro Petacchi (Fassa Bortolo) took his 21st win of the 2005 season with a superb sprint stage win at the Vuelta a España. Petacchi's Fassa Bortolo squad set him up perfectly for the victory ahead of rivals Erik Zabel and Tom Boonen on his Pinarello Dogma FP. Ale-Jet took off for the first step of the podium in the last 100 meters in Cordoba-Puertollano for the win.
