Saturday was the 96th edition of Milano-Sanremo and as a pre-race favorite, Alessandro Petacchi didn't dissapoint. Petacchi and his Fassa Bortolo teammates dominated the race all day and in the final sprint to the line, Petacchi rode his Pinarello Dogma FP to victory in his first-ever classic win.
After his twelfth win of the 2005 season on the Fassa Bortolo Pinarello Dogma FP, Petacchis said "I'm sick of the media and others who talk about me, but you saw today that I won by two or three bike lengths. I came to Milano-Sanremo in great form," explained Petacchi. "I changed a few things in my preparation this year, not because of the criticism, but to improve as a bike racer. To win San Remo I knew I needed to be a little bit stronger, so I lost a little weight."
