Christopher Froome, the great surprise of this exciting Vuelta, said it this morning, before the starting: “today is the last chance to win this Vuelta”. And he kept his word, trying in every way to wring the red jersey from Juan José Cobo.
He didn’t manage for few seconds, but he can be satisfied for is first success in a stage.
211 km from Faustino V to Pena Cabarga, the seventeenth stage, the longest of this Vuelta, with an hard climb at the arrival, the last 2 km that reached a slope of 20%.
Whit an incredible sprint 1km before the finishing line, the English of the Team Sky left everybody behind, except Cobo that limited the gap but didn’t avoid that Froome win the stage.
Thank to the bonus he is now just 13 second far from Cobo.
Tomorrow the 18° stage, 174 km from Solares to Noja: you can be sure that Froome is going to do is best to try to win again.
